What we take from nature’s capital, when we produce and consume, has a value to human society and a cost to nature. And yet, their fragile equilibrium is seriously threatened, out of sight out of mind, under the pressures of an economic system which currently fails to make adequate allowances for their maintenance or protection, least of all the steady flow of goods and services they provide to us.
