The MIC is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the greater Twin Ports area (cities of Duluth, Superior, Hermantown, Proctor, Rice Lake and townships on both sides of the bridge). MPOs exist across the United States for all urbanized areas with populations of 50,000, with the mission of ensuring that federally-funded transportation projects are planned cooperatively by local jurisdictions, with input from the people who live and work there and know the area best.
