Success4All
www.s4a.org.ukSuccess4All is an educational charity that has been working with children, young people and families in disadvantaged areas of Newcastle for over 10 years. Again and again, we read news that poorer children are missing out on opportunities to better their education. We at Success4All, truly believe that a child’s education should not be hindered by their financial status. Our main aim is to battle educational inequality with free to low-cost access to the internet, a peer tutor, learning resources, extra-curricular activities and summer schools. The attainment gap of pupils at GCSE-level in Newcastle, between disadvantaged and affluent areas, is one of the highest in the UK at 45% vs 72% in 2015, (Source: Know Your City http://goo.gl/ziFsIJ 2015). By running the Learning Hubs and Clubs directly in communities, we boost educational attainment and confidence in academic capabilities. Our Learning Hubs are safe, welcoming, self-organising environments where we accommodate all types of learning, i.e. one-to-one, independent or collaborative. Since setting up our first Learning Hub in 2006, we now run 7 Learning Hubs with access to 17 sessions per week in 7 different venues, supporting over 450 children, young people and parents yearly. Our activities are delivered by 150 active volunteers, most of whom are university or sixth-form/college students, recent graduates or parents.
