The International Center for the Promotion of Human Rights (CIPDH) is the first UNESCO Category 2 Center in the world dedicated to Human Rights. It was established in 2009 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and operates as a decentralized body within the scope of the National Executive Branch. The CIPDH is committed to the promotion and the deepening of the democratic system, the consolidation of human rights and the upholding of the values of life, liberty and human dignity. To this end, it builds cooperation and exchange between state institutions, international and regional organizations, national human rights institutions and civil society organizations. It carries out its work by means of technical assistance, training, research, knowledge exchange, information tools, awareness-raising and dissemination activities. The full application of the principle of equality, non-discrimination and cultural diversity as fundamental values for a culture of peace is one of the great historical and political challenges of the present. Within this context, the CIPDH assumes a complementary role to that of the States and the social movements, and seeks to enhance equality and non-discrimination through programs promoting gender equality, diversity and interculturality. Relying on the educational potential of cultural and historical heritage as a crucial element in the building of collective identities. The Center puts a priority on human rights education as a powerful driver to promote equal access to rights, greater autonomy and empowering people to take collective action – especially groups and communities in situations of vulnerability.
