THEPort Association

www.theport.ch

THE Port's mission is to connect engineers and innovators from CERN and other institutions worldwide to work on humanitarian challenges that can be solved or improved with technology. We partner and collaborate with various humanitarian international organizations, such as the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). These organizations are our link to know first-hand about the different humanitarian challenges that are currently arising. We then choose some of them and carefully pick an interdisciplinary team of engineers and innovators that will address them. Work on these challenges progresses throughout year, but once a year we organize a 3-day intensive problem-solving workshop or 'hackathon', during which the different teams meet to finally come up with a tangible solution to the challenge. Our THE Port humanitarian hackathon at CERN is our signature event; it allows for an actual transition from ideas to prototypes, resulting in some of the solutions from past hackathons already becoming real products. Unite innovators. Impact future. Act today.
