San Francisco Peer Resources

www.peerresources.org

Peer Resources creates just change in our schools and communities through the leadership of young people engaging, training, and advocating for young people. Our goals are to empower youth as agents of change, and transform schools into youth empowerment institutions. Founded in 1979 in partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District, Peer Resources embeds youth development into the school day to develop non-traditional leaders who serve their peers for just change. Trained and certificated teachers lead Peer Resources academic electives at SFUSD middle- and high-schools. Students in these classes--Peer Leaders--develop their skills of communication, problem-solving, collaboration and decision-making within a transformative resistance framework. Peer Leaders then identify institutional issues for change, and disenfranchised student populations in their schools, to analyze the barriers and implement actions to make change. In 2012-2013, 574 Peer Leaders at 13 SFUSD middle- and high schools served 13,921 of their peers. For more information, please check out our website, www.peerresources.org
