In the early 1800s, the forefathers of the present day Al-Arrayed family moved to Bahrain from Northern Arabia. Bahrain then was known as the pearl of the Arabian Gulf. Bahrain was the only metropolis on the shores of the northern Gulf. A beautiful oasis boasting over 1 million palm trees, it was also the international center of trade in Arabian pearls. The Arabian pearls are prized possessions adorning the jewelry of royalty and aristocrats in Europe and through out the world. Cartier used to frequent Bahrain to ensure the best pearl produce for his jewelry master piece. The grandfathers of the present generation of the Al-Arrayed family had a pearl trading post in Bahrain and Bombay. It was one of the first trading families to have international trading offices.
