The Andrew W. Marshall Foundation finds and fosters new voices who apply analytical approaches across disciplines to explore the strategic questions facing the United States. The Foundation’s new voices have one defining characteristic: they are curious explorers. “New voices” does not necessarily refer to those who are in the early stages of their careers; it also includes those who are reconsidering their positions on strategic questions and who are bringing new approaches or disciplines to the broad field of national security. Despite their differences, these individuals have a high tolerance for uncertainty and the ability to focus on shaping the future instead of reacting to it. The Foundation honors the legacy of Andrew W. Marshall, one of the United States’ longest-serving strategic thinkers and defense intellectuals, including forty years as the director of the Office of Net Assessment at the U.S. Department of Defense, by developing successive generations of long-term, strategic thinkers to build on his contributions to the national security of the United States.
