Seedbeds is founded and led by Rev Dr Ash Barker. For over 30 years Ash has lived intentionally on the front line of urban poverty and seen the unique potential of urban people and places released around the world. Since 2014, the Barkers have been planted in Winson Green, inner city Birmingham, UK and have been building a new team with a fresh vision to grow the capacities of urban leaders and their communities wherever they live. We believe every local community should have the opportunity to flourish in God’s love and shalom. To see that vision happen we have developed Seedbeds as an organisation to focus specifically on releasing the unique potential of local leaders and their neighbourhoods through capacity building programmes. Real change can happen from the grass roots, up. We have five programme areas: 1. 'Seedbeds Change Makers': Empowering a new generation of community leaders. Currently there are Change Makers emerging leaders programmes in England and Scotland. 2. 'Seedbeds School for Urban Leadership': Releases the unique potential of urban people through practical, formative and accredited leadership development programmes. This includes MA and PhD programmes with Nazarene Theological College (University of Manchester) and MA programmes with Ukrainian Evangelical Theological Seminary. 3. 'Seedbeds Change Incubator': Empowers community leaders in Myanmar to see their dreams for change happen in enterprise, community, campaigning and media. In partnership with the National Unity Government of Myanmar and the Civil Disobedience Movement. 4. 'Seedbeds Communications': Inspires & informs community building and engagement. Includes speaking, publishing and media. 5. “Newbigin Pioneering Hub”: Discovering, nurturing, equipping and releasing a new generation of pioneers in partnership with URC and CMS.
