Villa San Michele is one of Capri's most important turist attractions with more than 120 000 visitors yearly from all over the world. It was built at the turn of the 20th century by the Swedish physician and best selling author Axel Munthe (1857-1949). Today, Villa San Michele belongs to the Swedish State. Munthe's home is a fully furnished house museum with an important collection of sculptures and artifacts, mainly of ancient Roman, Egyptian and Etruscan origin. Villa San Michele's garden received the award as Italy's Most Beautiful Private Park in 2014 and is a member of the prestigious network Grandi Giardini.
