Smart School Councils is an award-winning charity with a mission to help every young person lead change in their world through democracy. We support our 400+ member schools with a whole school programme of democracy. It uses digital tools to involve every voice from the age of 5. Last year, 40,000 children per week engaged with debate through our digital debate tool which boosts school democracy participation from 7% to 100% in just one term. Our work is widely acknowledged to be a leading engagement activity, particularly for disadvantaged children as it levels the playing field in school democracy. We have received a NESTA Award, Mayor of London funding to support looked after and special needs youth, and we reached the milestone of 3,000 classroom debates held.
