CitrusBR was founded in June 2009 by the leading Brazilian producers and exporters of citrus juices and derivatives: Citrosuco, Cutrale and Louis Dreyfus Company. We work towards bringing quality information about the citrus production to the public. Explaining how our orange juice contributes to people's health, helps protect the environment and generates jobs and income in the cities where it is present. We want to show that it is possible to produce efficiently, generating wealth and at the same time doing our part to help build a better world. THE SECTOR In the last five decades, Brazil has consolidated itself as the largest exporter of orange juice worldwide. Its main markets are the countries located in Europe, followed by the United States and Asia. The Brazilian orange juice production is responsible for - 34% of the global orange production; - 62% of the global juice production; - 75% of the world trade of the drink. SOCIAL IMPORTANCE Brazilian citriculture generates around 200 thousand direct and indirect jobs in Brazil. In 2020 alone, orange was responsible for generating 38.3 thousand jobs This represents 6% of all jobs originated in the agriculture sector in Brazil and 10% of the jobs created in the State of São Paulo. Just for comparative purposes, citriculture generates 1 job for every 8.6 hectares planted, while sugarcane generates 1 job for every 80 hectares. This high demand for labour makes the sector very important in generating income in the cities where it is present. The Brazilian citrus chain: - Collects US$ 189 million in taxes - Has a GDP of US$ 6.5 billion - The orange juice exports generate annual revenues of around US$ 2 billion for our country
