Vilniaus universiteto Dainų ir šokių ansamblis – tai seniausias studentų dainų ir šokių ansamblis Lietuvoje, vienas labiausiai vertinamų tautinio meno puoselėtojų bei skleidėjų, išgarsėjęs novatoriškumo ir archaikos elementų derinimu savo programose. *** Vilnius University Song and Dance Ensemble is one of the oldest and most valuable folk art ensemble in Lithuania counting 80th reputable years. Ensemble programmes include lyric music along with joyful and cheering tunes. Many dances represent national customs or scenes from olden day life. Authentic songs and melodies freshly resound in their modern arrangements, and in the pieces of modern composers. The original character of dances is subtly revealed through stylized choreographic compositions. The uniqueness of many regions of Lithuania are also represented in the Ensemble’s concerts: South-East Lithuanian polkas, multipart songs of Highlands of Lithuania and ethnic costumes. Traditionally, the Ensemble takes part not only in national, but also in the international events and festivals. For example, the Song and Dance Celebration, which is included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, also in The Baltic Students Song and Dance Festival “Gaudeamus”. The ensemble has won the laureate name in prestigious contests like “Klumpakojis”, “Kadagys”, “Linksminkimos” and it has gained the nomination of “Aukso paukštė” (the highest reward for ensembles in Lithuania). Vilnius University Song and Dance Ensemble has visited four continents and more than 30 countries, including Australia, Mongolia and the USA.
