The Philippines is an archipelago of over 7,000 islands in the Pacific Ocean. The Philippines is culturally and linguistically diverse, mixing together its Malay and Asian roots with Spanish and U.S. American colonial influences. Filipino Association at Macalester, FAM for short, hopes to serve as a medium for the Macalester community to learn about Filipino culture and history. We aim to explore the Filipino identity through discussions about our colonial past, engagement in present issues of immigrant and people of color rights, and participation in cultural activities. This organization is about the culture, food, dance, music, and traditions of the Philippines with the larger Macalester community
