Rocca di Castagnoli

www.roccadicastagnoli.com

The village of Castagnoli rises from the heart of the Chianti Classico, on a hill that was already well-known to the Etruscans: surrounded by woods, vineyards and olive groves, it dominates the valley from its lofty situation, taking the mind back to ancient times. The farm extends over around 850 hectares, ranging in altitude from 380 metres to 860 metres. 72 hectares are given over to vineyards, with a prevalence of Sangiovese, the grape that forms the basis of the exellent Tuscan wines produced here. In 1981 considerable restoration work was carried out to the house and castle, and innovative production criteria were applied to the vines and the cellar. A highly modern vinification cellar was created, while the cellars belonging to the medieval castle were given over to the aging in barrels made from the best French oak. This is where we aim to achieve wines of great personality, elegance, complexity and balance, to be enjoyed over time. The geological characteristics of Castagnoli, with its deep soil rich in limestone and rock fragments, combined with a climate distinguished by a wide range of temperatures and a careful clonal selection of the grapes, hep us produce pleasing, elegant and complex wines with a structure and acidity that make them suitable for long agings. Some of these wines, like the Chianti Classico Rocca di Castagnoli, the Riserva Poggio a' Frati and our IGT Tocana or Supertuscans are very much sought after, both in the Chianti area itself as in the rest of Italy and abroad.
