The European Journal of Legal Studies (EJLS) publishes articles across a wide range of legal topics, with particular emphasis on international law, comparative law, european law and legal theory. Its first issue was published in 2007 with the full support of the EUI Law Department. With the aim of promoting a European cross fertilisation of ideas, the Journal encourages the innovative discussion of overlapping national, international, and supranational legal systems, which European legal scholarship is singularly qualified to examine. Central to the EJLS’ aim of continually shaping and challenging legal thought is our commitment to a comparative and interdisciplinary understanding of law. The Journal employs a rigorous and transparent editorial policy to ensure that contributions meet the highest academic standards. This is achieved by way of a peer-review process involving the EUI’s entire scientific community (professors, fellows, researchers, as well as alumni). The EJLS encourages thought-provoking, original and forward-looking publications. In addition, it is a multilingual open-access initiative, rooted in and reflecting the EUI’s uniquely cosmopolitan academic environment, which gathers together scholars from across Europe and beyond, facilitating a fruitful interaction of legal traditions, cultures and ideas.
