Based in Glendale, Queens, the Excalibur Reading Program provides low-income students and students with disabilities with academic support, mentorship, and extracurricular enrichment. Over the course of 15+ years, Excalibur has empowered 3,000+ students to overcome learning challenges, attend college, and achieve their dreams. Excalibur’s friendly after-school tutoring center offers virtual and in-person tutoring in all subjects for students from kindergarten to college. We also offer essay-writing workshops and provide private and group sessions for state exams and standardized tests including the SHSAT, SAT, TACHS, and GED. Finally, our enrichment program offers classes in creative writing and visual arts. Recognizing that the impacts of inequity extend far beyond the classroom, Excalibur’s staff licensed social worker provides mental health services to youth and parents alike. We also collaborate with community organizations to mentor young people who have suffered domestic violence and sexual assault as well as those who have been incarcerated, providing mental health support and resources for educational and career success.
