Restorative Justice Victoria
rjvictoria.wordpress.comRestorative Justice Victoria (RJV) is a not-for-profit organization that delivers a variety of restorative justice services at different points in the criminal justice system, after a crime has occurred. It is a both a victim-centred and community-based approach to crime. Non-adversarial and non-retributive; we see accountability happening through offenders making amends to victims, helping victims have their needs met, and addressing the root causes of the offence. Through fundraising, services are provided at no cost to clients who are referred to us by our community partners (VicPD, Oak Bay PD, Crown, ICBC, and probation offices in Greater Victoria). A key element of our approach at RJV is to tailor each restorative justice dialogue to the clients’ needs. Staff and volunteers are trained in a variety of models, and are encouraged to creatively and collaboratively build an individualized process for each case. All facilitators, co-facilitators and mentors are trained and come from professions such as psychology, counselling, mental health and addictions, social work, and mediation.
