With a history of 120 years, The Affiliated High School of South China Normal University, located in Guangzhou,is widely regarded as the most prestigious and high-achieving high school in Guangdong province. The International Department of the School(HFI), founded in 2004, originally offering the International Foundation Year (IFY) program, accredited by the Northern Consortium (NCUK), allowing matriculation to British and Australian universities. In 2009, HFI launched an Advanced Placement® program, allowing students to matriculate to tertiary education in any country worldwide, though the majority of graduating students choose to study in universities in the United States. This program operates as a comprehensive three-year high school. The International Department is staffed with over 60 professionals, with teachers from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, India, Indonesia and China, 90% of whom hold advanced degrees. It is one of the most selective high school programs in South China, admitting only 10% of applicants annually. The aim of the school can be encapsulated by the motto "Orient Education Toward the World", which refects how the school's programs recognize and build on students' strengths, enabling them to develop an international outlook while retaining their Chinese identity.
