Springhouse is an intergenerational learning community with life at its center. We are actively reimagining education and believe learning is a lifelong journey that should be centered around vitality, meaning, and cultivating wholeness to better serve the world’s emerging needs. Located in the small town of Floyd atop the Blue Ridge Plateau in southwestern Virginia, Springhouse is an intergenerational, learner-centered, and competency-based learning environment. We understand that growing up well requires a solid educational framework as well as the participation of the entire community. The Springhouse 7th-12th grade program facilitates the holistic development of our learners. Through the Fields of Study and the various components offered in our program, learners work toward exemplary demonstration of both foundational and advanced competencies. Learners engage with Four Core Practices including: learning by doing, mentoring, community collaborations, and embodied living. The result is a dynamic learning environment that strives to balance structure and freedom.
