THE INSTITUTE OF DIRECTORS IN TANZANIA PLC (the IoDT) was incorporated (under the Companies Act, 2002) on 27th of September, 2010 as a Company Limited by Guarantee. It is a not-for-profit membership-based organization for individuals i.e. directors and senior executives (of public and private sector enterprises), practicing professionals (academicians, lawyers, doctors, engineers, architects etc) and others (looking to pursue courses with IoDT in the anticipation that they will eventually become directors or save as the board of directors). All the aforementioned groups are described as being dedicated to their professional development in particular and to the established principles of corporate governance and standards in the economy in general. The IoDT is therefore positioned as an institution focusing on advising directors of private and public enterprises and other similar organization. In this way the IoDT is committed to the uplifting of the professional practice of corporate directorship in the country in line with international principles, and to the promotion of corporate governance reforms in public and private companies with a view to improving their efficiency and performance, and the well being of the economy and society in general.
