Years ago, when I was a high school student, I frequently went to Tehran to buy the books that I needed. I came across many students from Karaj, my hometown, who also travelled to Tehran to purchase the book.” This was the intriguing idea for the founder of Bahman Book to establish the bookstore that, in a short period, became the first chain bookstore in Iran, with several branches in Alborz province. The first branch was stablished in Karaj’s main business area, in 1998. The Bahaman Books has been founded to meet Karaji people’s various cultural and educational needs. The name of the company, Bahman, is inspired by the Avestan Vohu Manah, ancient Iranian myth which symbolizes ‘good mind’ and ‘good disposition’. This mythological figure was chosen by the founder to promote Bahman Book ethos, endorsing education for everyone. Bahman Book, beside his cultural vocation, is one the leading businesses in empowering women in Iran. All five branches are directed by female managers. Bahman Book is an equal employment opportunity organization. We began with providing educational materials for pre-college students and then we extended our mission to offer a variety of educational material from early years of learning to the highest collegial levels. Now, the branches sell textbooks, fiction and non-fiction books, and also DVD department has begun to work three years ago. The branches also offer a wide range of stationary supplies. Bahman Book stores reflect their local markets, but are always noted for their range of Fiction, the Arts and Children’s books in particular as well as our friendly and knowledgeable staff.
