The first Operations Research society in Sri Lanka. Statistics & Operations Research is a four-year degree programme which is conducted by the Faculty of Science, UOP. Under the guidance and the instructions by the University Grant Commission, Prof. W.B. Daundasekara was a staggering figure in commencing the 4-year honors degree programme titled 'Statistics and Operations Research' in the Faculty of Science attached to the University of Peradeniya. In 2007 , Prof. Daundasekara further motivated the students to establish the 'Operations Research Society', with the sole objective of fostering the attitude of team work amongst the students. The society further focused on developing collaboration with the industry and to widen the opportunities to enhance the students' soft skills and professional attitudes. The Operations Research Society has currently been broadened with a large number of members and is further developing its mission as one of the most active societies of the University.
