El Paso Verde
www.elpasoverde.comEl Paso Verde was born from a vision of an Army soldier while stationed at Fort Bliss, TX in El Paso. The idea was two-fold. One, that the city could move towards becoming self-sufficient in its food requirements and two, that the benefits of Sustainable Agriculture could be shared with the military veteran community. In 2016, El Paso Verde was launched as the only commercial, hydroponic food producer in El Paso. The farm incorporates water-saving farming methods (called hydroponics) that are both safe and sustainable. Today, the dream has begun taking root. The farm helps those in the Paso del Norte region trace their food back to sprout, all within the same 915/505-area code. El Paso Verde blends Organic practices with hydroponic technology in a simple, modern, and conscientious way. We harvest delicious produce such as salad greens and culinary herbs for local individuals, chefs, institutions, and foodies across West Texas and Southern New Mexico. Our patrons appreciate that they can purchase produce grown in local greenhouses where they can visit and see how it is grown; then harvested within a few hours of delivery. Our mission is simple: 1. To grow exceptional produce for the local area. 2. To help raise growers from the military community as they transition back to civilian life. Farming offers a therapeutic outlet but it also offer a potential career option with a positive impact. For many military members that have already participated in our agriculture classes, the mission continues...from defending to now feeding their local community.
