Together for Better Days
www.betterdays.ngoBetter Days is a Swiss-Greek humanitarian NGO that provides education and integration support to refugees in Greece. Better Days was founded in November 2015 by Elena Moustaka and Anrika Velychko. We are run by a diverse, international team, united by a fierce determination to bring humanity and compassion to aid delivery, and to introduce new humanitarian space-creation models. To date, our main projects have comprised of: - The Olive Grove, informal camp adjacent to Moria Camp (2015-2016) - Elpida Home, a refugee accommodation center in Thessaloniki for vulnerable refugee families (2017) - Gekko Kids, an alternative education center for unaccompanied asylum seeking children (launched August 2017, ongoing) - ECO-Hub, a permaculture hub and outdoor classroom in the One Happy Family refugee community center (launched October 2017, ongoing) - TAPUAT, a child and family support hub (2018 – ongoing) In addition, we support innovative independent projects that advance alternative approaches to the refugee crisis in Greece. To date we have supported over 21 projects run by grassroots organizations in Greece. Whether offering emergency response, legal support, or emergency education, we continually emphasize and engage in participatory practices, support and collaborate with local authorities and efforts, and foster agency among the communities we support. Together with our partners, growing community of followers, and sponsors, we work to reinvent aid delivery in a more humanizing direction. Our work is imbued with a sense of responsibility for the impact our actions have on the mental and physical well-being and futures of the people we work with. We strive to improve quality of life for displaced populations while developing sustainable humanitarian programs and developing replicable mechanisms. We believe this dual approach is essential to improve on, and surmount, the inefficiencies and dependency-creating dynamics of traditional humanitarian aid delivery.
