The INSTITUTE OF SOFTWARE PRACTITIONERS OF NIGERIA (ISPON) is the industry Professional body of the Indigenous Software Developers and Practitioners in Nigeria. ISPON was formed in 1999 with the aim of creating an enabling environment for local content developers to thrive and compete internationally. She has been in the fore front of championing the utilization of Nigerian developed software in order to boost our economy and give Nigeria an alternative to oil as a revenue earner. As an affiliate of the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS), ISPON partners with NCS regularly to monitor software exhibitions in the country. ISPON working in conjunction with NSDI presented its ten-point agenda to the government and after lots of efforts got some positive results. The most important one being the directive from the Federal Executive Council mandating all Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies to patronize made in Nigeria software products and services as priority choice applications for all their functions. This creates a very large market, which if exploited fully by software developers could let them grow both in their country, products and prosper in the international space. ISPON brought the idea of the National Software Policy which was inaugurated on the 6th of December, 2010. Also, ISPON has established Software Development Clubs in over 30 Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria after the Nigeria Computer Society Conference in Asaba, Delta State in 2010. Mission To impact on national development and the software ecosystem through innovation, sustainable development and pervasive application of Nigerian software and services in all spheres of human endeavour. Vision An innovative, rewarding and inspiring knowledge society empowered by the self-sustaining values, processes and products of software and related services.
