ISDSI is an educational institution dedicated to providing American students the opportunity to study key issues in sustainability through community-based experiential learning. While Northern Thailand is our base, ISDSI Expedition Field Courses take place throughout Thailand – from remote islands in the Andaman sea to tribal villages in the northern mountains. Our study abroad programs are hands-on and created in close collaboration with local communities using the principles of participatory rural development. These courses combine challenging academic study in the sciences with field-based learning about both local wisdom and cultural practices. Critical to the success of our programs is ISDSI's deep connections to the communities we work with, and an on-going commitment to helping empower local people through the capacity building that comes from having the villagers be the experts and teachers.
