Citywise is a not-for-profit organisation provides education, sporting and personal development programmes. It began in 1991 in Dublin as a response to educational under-achievement of young people living in difficult city backgrounds and was formally established in 1994. Since then it has gradually developed a range of supports for young people and currently has programmes in Ballymun, in Jobstown and in Belfast. Citywise provides young people with after-school and out-of-school educational support, often urgently needed by those growing up in difficult or hostile city environments. Citywise’s educational programmes raise the sights of young people, give them an enthusiasm for learning and open up possibilities for further education. Citywise Education recognises the under-provision of support for young people, especially those in adolescent years. It directs it resources to boys and girls aged ten years and over with a view to maintaining ongoing contact with these youth at least until they access employment. The success of Citywise is due to its remarkable volunteers, local leaders, third-level students and young graduates. Volunteer your time to become involved in one of the activities below: Help in the support activities for these programmes (e.g. promotion, fundraising) Teach academic subjects afternoon/evening (get time off & ask your firm / college to support your involvement Help students on a one-to-one basis Use a talent to help in a Citywise activity: computers, canoeing, soccer, whatever Help with a fundraising activity: coffee morning, sponsored walk, Christmas fundraising Volunteering Co-ordinate a group of volunteers from your university / firm Citywise Education works closely with a number of top corporate supporters in providing valuable group volunteering opportunities as well as benefiting from their funding support. We always welcome new partners.
