Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA)

Funded initially by seed money from Breeders’ Cup Ltd., The Jockey Club, and Keeneland Association Inc., the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) is supported by owners, trainers, breeders, racetracks, aftercare professionals, and other industry groups. Since 2012, the TAA has granted more than $24.5 million to accredited aftercare organizations and 14,500 Thoroughbreds have been retrained, rehomed, or retired by accredited organizations. Currently, 82 organizations with approximately 180 facilities hold TAA accreditation. TAA Recognition - The TAA’s Code of Standards and accreditation process have been reviewed and approved by the American Humane Association & the American Association of Equine Practitioners. - The TAA received the 2013 Special Eclipse Award honoring extraordinary service, individual achievements in, or contributions to the sport of Thoroughbred racing - The TAA received the 2019 Special Award of Merit at the Alibi Breakfast during Preakness week at Pimlico Race Course TAA Advantage - Industry-united initiative - Intensive accrediting system & a strong funding mechanism - Funds raised provide support to accredited aftercare organizations to retire, retrain, & rehome racehorses The TAA is a shared responsibility of many Thoroughbred entities including: The Jockey Club, Breeders’ Cup, Keeneland Association, Inc., sales companies, horsemen groups, racetracks, stallion farms, trainers and others. The TAA accreditation application process runs from January to April each year, accreditation lasts two years and organizations must reapply every other year.
