St Cyril's Theological College is an accredited member institution of the Sydney College of Divinity and strives to deliver the highest quality of Orthodox theological education in the Coptic tradition. We offer a full range of internationally recognised degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our courses are delivered by a dedicated, scholarly faculty, in frequent collaboration with leading scholars in Orthodox theology from around the world. However, while we certainly strive for academic excellence at St Cyril’s, we also believe that theology is not purely about academia. Rather, good theology is impossible without a lived encounter with the living God. Theology is inseparable from spirituality, as Evagrius of Pontus famously wrote: “The one who prays is a theologian; the one who is a theologian, prays.” St Cyril of Alexandria, our patron saint, wrote early in the fifth century that "the meeting ground between God and man is Flesh and Christ." To truly study theology is to step onto this meeting ground, to encounter Christ Himself, God made flesh, in heart, mind, soul and body. For this reason every member of our staff and faculty, every subject in our degrees, and our entire theological program, is directed to a singular aim: meeting the incarnate God. We strive to humbly realise this aim within a rigorous educational framework, in harmony with our modern Australian context, without ever losing sight of the spiritual dimension of authentic Orthodox theology and education.
