Smartcom Software specialises in navigation and marine software. We develop a number of off the shelf products, we produce software modules for 3rd parties, and we carry out R&D activities in areas such as marine and land based mapping and navigation, e-navigation, weather information systems. Research projects to date are as follows: TeamSurv/CoSuDec: an ongoing project investigating using crowdsourcing to gather GPS and depth data as an alternative to hydrographic surveys CADRE: a project looking at using fuzzy logic and floating vehicle data to improve traffic speed modelling, and to use that in developing better vehicle routing algorithms ALIS: a project to look at an e-navigation style system for the sub-SOLAS marine sector MIDAS: a weather information system for the mariner, combining forecast data and current weather reports Current software products are: TideWizard: tidee height prediction software PC Navtex: Single user and networked NAVTEX reception software SmartMet: A weather information and visualisation tool, derived from the MIDAS project WinAstro: Astro navigation software PC SatC: Windows software for INMARSAT C communications SmartCom: software for mobile and satellite phone e-mail and web access
