Since 2009, Highland Youth Garden (HYG) has been offering impactful outdoor education to PreK-5th grade students at Highland Elementary who visit our garden every other week to learn about healthy eating and gardening. They also strengthen their STEM knowledge and develop social and emotional skills as they participate in our programming. Coming up this fall of 2022, 240 4-year-olds will begin school at the City’s new Westside Early Learning Center to be located across the street from HYG. By the end of this year, over 700 children will have the opportunity to learn and grow in our garden on a regular basis with our talented educators. We also offer these children summer, weekend, and after school opportunities, fresh organic produce for their families, backyard gardens, summer employment for neighborhood teenagers, Saturday morning activities for families and seasonal festivals to foster a supportive community among residents.
