Fundación Retoño, a non-profit organization, was founded for the purpose of fostering the development of better opportunities for children and youth facing a situation of social vulnerability in Uruguay, thus collaborating with the Uruguayan Government's efforts in this sense. Fundación Retoño Uruguay has two flagship projects which assist free of charge approximately 800 children from 0 to 16 years old: the Centro Espigas which has been active for more than 14 years and the Liceo Espigas which opened in 2016. Both projects operate in a 10 hectares piece of land owned by the Foundation at the Puntas de Manga neighbourhood and areas of influence, very deprived areas on the outskirts of Montevideo. The Foundation's work is aimed at providing the children with a supportive environment, where education, transmission of values and work habits, and a highly qualified professional staff are key elements in order to achieve those goals. Its work extends to the construction and funding of First Care Medical and Dental Clinics in its Puntas de Manga premises and makes donations to other organizations of various nature.
