Debra Schaumberg | ART
www.debraschaumberg.comIt’s dangerous to stand behind me while I’m painting. I don’t hear or see what’s going on around me as I start to place paint on the canvas and I drop into a zone of deep energy emanating from a place that communicates without words. I’ve slowed down, and tuned into a heightened state of awareness where I can experience the emotional energy flow at a bodily level. I’m told I tend to back up every few seconds, without looking, holding the farthest end of a brush or palette knife as I concentrate on synchronizing the multiple, alternating dimensions of what I’m seeing. At some point, while moving between these planes of reality, my subject begins to oscillate. I become intensely sensitive to subtly pulsating patterns of light and the saturation, color, and value within an unfolding array of details where my inner eye instinctively composes the idea. In my process I experience the energy flow that connects all things together, and emanating from this quiet place, these contemplative paintings explore the most basic part of our humanity, our time alone, and our connections with ourselves, with the world around us, and with others.
