Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra
www.nutmegsymphony.orgThe Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra is a professional orchestra providing classical concerts and musical services to Connecticut communities. We collaborate with local schools systems to strengthen school music programs through performance, and often involve students in performance with the orchestra. We perform annual educational concerts at Lewis Mills High School serving approximately 1,400 third graders from local school systems. The orchestra's purposes in performing these concerts are to stimulate an intellectual curiosity in music and to encourage participation in school music programs. Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra supports the creative efforts of Connecticut based composers and in recent years, has performed the premiers of works by Stephen Gryc, Larry Alan Smith, Robert Carl, Thomas Duffy, Neely Bruce, and Joseph Russo. Music Director and Conductor Marshall Brown is a faculty member of the Hartt School Community Division and is a trombonist with the Waterbury and Wallingford Symphony Orchestras. He has degrees from the Hartt School and the University of Michigan, and is the founding conductor of the Montgomery (AL) Symphony Orchestra. The musicians are an integral part of musical life in Connecticut, performing with many other Connecticut orchestras and chamber music groups. Many of the musicians have private teaching studios and are available for lessons.
