Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire Department

Founded in 1942, the Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department provides frontline emergency services to the community of Dunn Loring and the greater Tysons Corner area of Northern Virginia. Running in excess of 6,500 emergency calls per year, the volunteers in combination with the career firefighters of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, work to meet the ever-increasing demand for services. The 75 volunteers of the Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and Ladies Auxiliary provided over 17,500 hours of uncompensated service annually. Volunteers provide supplemental staffing of emergency apparatus as fully trained and qualified emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and firefighters, and raise over $750,000 annually to meet the department’s obligations, such as maintaining the physical plant, purchasing fire engines and ambulances, and operating a non-profit corporation. With assets of over $1.7 million, the Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department plays a major role in providing fire and emergency medical services. It operates two fire engines, two ambulances, a rehabilitation unit, and two commands vehicles from its facility at 2148 Gallows Road under the authority of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. This unique public-private partnership has worked to ensure a higher quality fire and rescue service to the citizens it serves at a lower cost per capita.
