Harold and Ida Markman opened their first jewelry store in October 1976. Their plan was to provide their customers with the “best quality and best service at the best price.” While this is an idea that a lot of companies claim is their goal, Markmans made this the foundation of their business. This concept is an ongoing promise shared also by their son, Steve Markman, who joined the team in 1978. As will happen when a business fulfills its promises, customers have continued to make Markmans their source for special moments. Parents and grandparents purchase those first jewelry pieces for their children and their children’s children. Markmans has given birth to family keepsakes and heirlooms through the thoughtful purchases given by customers to those they love. Because the knowledge of Markmans dedication to quality and service to their customers became known throughout East Tennessee, Markmans expanded to an additional location in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1978. Located outside the Hamilton Place Mall, the Chattanooga store offers the same high level of service and customer satisfaction as found in the original Knoxville store. Like the Knoxville flagship store, the Chattanooga store continues its promise of providing the best quality and best service at the best price. In order to do this, the tradition of training each employee to follow the methods of service established by Harold Markman continues.
