De Kort van Schaik is an architectural practice based in Rotterdam. De Kort Van Schaik was founded in 2011, and is led by Robert-Jan de Kort and Sander van Schaik. De Kort Van Schaik has a wide-ranging engagement with architecture. While the act of building is the ultimate aim, it does not stand alone: it is fundamentally informed by a broad academic and cultural interest, leading to writings, initiating events and teaching engagements. In 2013 De Kort Van Schaik founded the international architecture platform TALKS about architecture. The architecture of De Kort Van Schaik expresses ideas about public space and community and also shows the ability to unravel spatial potential that remains unseen beneath programmatic demands. The care that goes into the projects becomes a tangible part of what the buildings convey. Central elements in the projects include a thorough and well-informed use of materials with an eye to the integrity of the project as a spatial composition. The resulting architecture is generous and clear, providing a space for the life within rather than trying to claim the stage for itself.
