www.abilitiesmovement.orgAbilities Movement (AM) is a not-for-profit organization providing ongoing fitness, wellness, sports opportunities, and community integration for people with moderate to severe disabilities. Through diverse classes and one-on-one personal fitness training, AM trained and certified staff provide adapted fitness training and sport opportunities to approximately 160 individuals of all ages, races, incomes, and socioeconomic backgrounds in Monroe and Ontario counties yearly. AM facilitates programming, serving individuals with health needs and complex challenges, including; Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Epilepsy, Visual Impairments, Traumatic Brain Injury, mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, genetic disorders, and other challenges. Many AM participants (85%) have intellectual/developmental disabilities. Many of AM participants (65%) utilize AM services when they are aging out of school-related services and transitioning to adult services, often resulting in the loss of crucial health supports. AM seeks to bridge the gap that exists as individuals age out of services.
