MITIGAT.com, Inc. offers expertise in the reduction of potential damage to buildings, facilities, infrastructure and communities, from the impact of natural or technological hazards including: hurricanes, storm surge, sea level rise and other extreme events. MITIGAT uses expert management tools, including: Hazard Assessment, Vulnerability Assessment, Risk Assessment, Environmental Assessment to characterize expected impacts to a facility or an entire community or region. MITIGAT uses findings from these studies to identify hazard mitigation and adaptation measures, including building design criteria or retrofitting alternatives that may be effective in reducing potential damage from future recurring impacts. MITIGAT complements this with studies on: Hazard Mitigation/Adaptation Analysis, Benefit-Cost Analysis, Comparative Evaluation of Mitigation/Adaptation Alternatives, to help owners and decision-makers identify preferred alternatives to reduce the potential for damage from recurring impacts. MITIGAT main current focus is on the impacts of hurricanes, the combined damaging effects of storm surge and sea level rise, and the identification/evaluation of hazard mitigation/adaptation alternatives to help protect life, property and continuity of function during and in the aftermath of hazard events. MITIGAT offers additional support in: Mitigation Planning, Preparedness, Recovery, Damage Assessment and Emergency Management Planning, Education/training in these fields, Expert Witness/Subject Matter Expertise, as well as applied research and public speaker services related to above identified areas of service. MITIGAT has been involved in hurricane impact research and studies since 1988 (Cat 5 Hurricane Gilbert) and in climate change/sea level rise since 1997 (First National Assessment in the USA).
