Wellington Cable Car Limited proudly operates and maintains Wellington's historic Cable Car (one of New Zealand's only running funicular railway, since 1902). The Cable Car carries in excess of 1,000,000 passengers per year and is the second most visited tourist attraction in Wellington after Te Papa. WCCL is a Wellington City Council-owned Council Controlled Organisation (it was incorporated in its current structure in 1991). WCCL employs 20 FTE with a further 10 casual personnel who assist during peak times (particularly during busy Cruise Ship visit days).
