Sutton Walls Conservation Group
www.suttonwalls.co.uk'Sutton Walls Camp' has been on the doorstep of Hereford since before the roman invasion is noted to be one of the larger iron age hill forts with a hugely rich and engaging history; it was the site of the murder of King Ethelbert by King Offa during the dark ages, and has been the subject of numerous excavations, including by that of the prominent archaeologist Dame Kathleen Kenyon, who discovered large amounts of human remains and indicating historical conflict of some significance. Sadly much of the site was used as a quarry and landfill over the last century and was further neglected with industrial dumping soon after, such that Historic England has placed Sutton Walls on the 'At Risk' Register. Sutton Walls Conservation Group is a not for profit organisation committed to restoration and enhancement of the site in addition to consolidating further research into the monument such that it is available for generations to come. SWCG would welcome interest from all those who would like to find out more about the unique history of the monument, together with those who can add insight or knowledge.
