Autonomous Ground Vehicle Research Group
www.agv.iitkgp.ac.inTeam AGV is a multi-disciplinary research group aimed at building a fully operational self-driving car. As a Research Group under the mentorship of our Faculty Advisor - Professor Debashish Chakraborty, Department of Mining Engineering, we also engage in research work related to autonomous and mobile robots involving Deep-Learning and Reinforcement agents. We are a group of about 50 motivated undergraduate students from various disciplines of Engineering including Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science with a common interest in the Research Field of Robotics. Since Eklavya 1.0, our first vehicle at IGVC 2012 - Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, held in Rochester, MIchigan - the team has come a long way. IGVC is conducted at Oakland University, and sponsored by the likes of Northrop-Grumman, GDLS and Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles. Refining our vehicle year-on-year, with progress in the fields of path planning, localisation and computer vision, the team's current best position was secured at IGVC 2018 - 2nd place in the Auto-Nav challenge, beating off competition from GeorgiaTech, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and competitors from India like IIT Bombay and Madras. Our aims are set sky-high, with further bettering our performance at IGVC 2019, and working on a fully functioning self driving car as part of the Mahindra Rise Challenge, high on the agenda.
