No More Empty Pots

www.nmepomaha.org

No More Empty Pots is a grassroots nonprofit that engages community in local foods systems initiatives. Our values are education, stewardship and sustainability. Our mission is to help people become more self-sufficient and communities become more economically resilient with local foods as our focus. Our projects include Truck Farm Omaha, a mobile urban agriculture education project primarily serving youth; Community Market Basket, a community CSA that provides fresh fruits and vegetables to all customers, including SNAP; and No More Empty Cups, a nonprofit community coffee shop, that provides employment, entrepreneurship training and community gathering space. Our biggest project is the Collaborative Community Centered Food Hub, an integrated space to demonstrate the interdependent nature of the food system in one location from production to distribution, processing, consumption and recycling that will provide job readiness training, living wage jobs, reduce food waste and build businesses with recurring revenue. The food hub is a $2.9 million project based in North Omaha. It will include a shared use commercial kitchen available for rent by the hour, a production kitchen that will take recycled food and turn it into value-added products while teaching program participants basic culinary and job readiness skills, a community cafe, a small business incubator, a kids kitchen for hands-on cooking classes and STEM activities, and a rooftop garden for production and training. We are currently fundraising and expect to start construction in October. We love leveraging resources and connecting people and groups. We engage conversation and help to fill gaps by supporting each contributor working to their strengths. We love food. We believe in people. We give our best and expect the same. There is room at the table for everyone. Join us.
