Shumac was incorporated in 1995. The firm specializes in human-machine systems engineering (human factors, usability, systems engineering, software engineering) for complex (e.g., nuclear, industrial process control, aerospace, biomedical) and commercial (Web, desktop software, banking) applications. Shumac combines knowledge about the users, the technologies and the business objectives and processes to derive specifications of interactive systems and products that achieve superior usability in the market. In addition to its commercial activities, Shumac actively collaborates with the department of industrial engineering and applied mathematics at École Polytechnique de Montréal in teaching and research in the area of Web usability (at the graduate level) and cognitive engineering.
