Military activities In 1944, Halmstad airport was opened and was only a military airport, F14. It was discontinued in 1961, but since then, the business has continued to form educational links in various forms. Today, the Swedish Defense Forces Technical School, FMTS, has its head-quarters in Halmstad. There all trained aeronautics in the Armed Forces are trained, but also air traffic controllers and officers from a number of countries, such as JAS 39 Gripen, Helicopter Systems and Tanks 122. Civil Air Traffic • In 1958, civil aviation also began to use the airport. The domestic airline Linjeflyg flew to Stockholm-Bromma airport. • In 1992, SAS acquired Linjeflyg and operated this route for a few years. Then the airline Transwede took over the route. After that period, several airlines have flown to both Stockholm-Bromma and Stockholm-Arlanda airports from Halmstad City Airport. • In 2003, domestic traffic began to Stockholm-Arlanda which was operated by Skyways airline until spring 2012. After spring 2012 Kullaflyg airline (at that time Sverigeflyg, which today is BRA) and NextJet took over the route to Stockholm-Arlanda. • 2008 a new route to Stockholm-Bromma started, which was operated by Skyways Airline until spring 2012. After a short break in summer 2012 Kullaflyg airline took over the route. • In June 2015, NextJet ended its scheduled service to Stockholm-Arlanda. • In October 2015 Sparrow Aviation started three new routes from Halmstad: Stockholm-Arlanda, Berlin and Kalmar. • On 29 February 2016, Kullaflyg joined forces with Malmö Aviation, Braathen and Sverigeflyg and formed the group BRA. • In June 2016, Sparrow Aviation ended with its scheduled services to Stockholm-Bromma, Kalmar and Berlin. • Since 1998 Halmstad City Airport have charter flights.
