The Village People Project is a charitable organization active in the rural mountainous region of northwest China. Registered in HK as a charity, VPP has constructed and operated communal village bathhouses in PRC since 2008. VPP has carried out site visits to this area since April 2015 inspecting villages with existing systems and new villages – VPP facilitates in evaluating projects and raising and transmitting funds using the VPP platform www.villagepeopleproject.org. To date it has raised funding for five villages – Sasuma, Luma, Dongxiu, Degang and Zhali Mao and 50 % of the funding needed for Jila Ga. VPP's mission is to provide villagers in northwestern China with sustainable solutions to hygienic issues. In doing so, it strives to improve the health and social well-being of women, who are disproportionately affected by these conditions. VPP has recently partnered with a local nonprofit, Lotus Charity Association (LCA), and now focuses specifically on building household bathrooms in Qinghai villages. These household bathrooms allow each household unit to have its own source of running hot water for bathing and other household use. Solar water heaters also provide hot water to the villagers for bathing, cooking and making tea, washing clothes and preparing animal feed. A solar-heated, dependable supply of hot water is very important and useful- it impacts many aspects of everyday life and improves the general well-being and quality of life for everyone, but particularly for women.
