Unlocking the creative energies of young people in Scotland through theatre Using the youth theatre/drama process to develop not only creativity and performance skills but also transferable skills in participants, Scottish Youth Theatre puts particular emphasis on each individual’s personal and social development. This process encourages children and young people to improve self-confidence, self-image and self-esteem. The range of activities offers an opportunity for progression through the Company, from weekly classes to specialist classes, and from Summer Courses to casting for theatre, film & television and beyond. In March 2017, SYT launched its first ever National Ensemble. Any young person aged 16 - 25 who lives, works, studies or has family in Scotland is eligible to apply and there is no participation fee - entry is based purely on ability. The Ensemble is a year's commitment and is a place for theatre makers to develop and showcase their skills. During the year, company members attend monthly development weekends where they work with a specialist on a specific skill or genre. Over 6 weeks during the summer the company devise and stage a new piece of theatre of their own creation. Auditions are held throughout Scotland and are advertised on SYT's website www.scottishyouththeatre.org Scottish Youth Theatre also works in partnership with schools, youth theatres, youth groups and national agencies to deliver tailor-made Special Projects. Each project is devised and developed to suit the requirements of each client group.
