Francis Milloy Design (FMD) is a New York City based design studio specializing in the creative and precise use of light & darkness within the built environment. The studio operates within the fields of architecture, urbanism, art & product design and has extensive experience working in cultural, academic, commercial and residential sectors, internationally and throughout the US. Principal Francis Milloy practices as an architect, lighting designer, urbanist and artist. He has over twenty years experience in the lighting profession and has collaborated on award winning projects with many of the world’s leading architect’s, engineers and designers - including, Foster + Partners, Grimshaw Architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour, SOM, KPF, ARUP, Buro Happold and more. In order to help improve the environments within which our lives take place, the studio draws on its considerable experience and study of light & darkness, the ineffable, mysterious and rhythmical essence we all inhabit. Still, open and mindful listening, deep and thorough contemplation, ideas/concepts, drawings & renders, illuminance studies, working details, light fixture specifications and precision mock-ups are some of the methods used in order to creatively, practically and professionally ensure that design & technical excellence is achieved for each project. FMD offers offers services and solutions from feasibility study, through design and construction administration to final commissioning, for any project undertaken. Our collaborative studio approach achieves highly creative project specific solutions, in an efficient and effective manner.
