The Archibald Corbett Community Library, Arts & Heritage Centre
www.corbett.communityThe Organisation and Leadership: The Archibald Corbett Community Library, Arts and Heritage Centre (ACCLAHC), trading as The Corbett Community Centre, is a charity formed in 2016 by local residents to take over the management of the previously named Grade II listed Torridon Road Library from Lewisham Council, to save it from being closed down and develop it into a Community Centre for the Corbett Estate and surrounding areas, and providing a wide-range of free activities, events and local services to include the continuing presence of the Library, plus a new Performing Arts, Exhibition and Heritage Centre. The Corbett Community Centre project is located at 103-105 Torridon Road, Catford, London, SE6 1RQ and currently the ACCLAHC board consists of nine trustee members, each well experienced with aspects of developing groups to work in partnership, to provide services for the overall benefit of the local community. Building stronger community relationships: Since its re-opening in October 2016, the Corbett Community Centre has continued to attract on average over 6,000 visitors per month (an increase of 30% on previous years Library usage), with over 1,000 members of the public regularly attending over 20 activities per week, which have since been developed since the opening. Essentially, bringing residents together and generating greater community cohesion with help and support from more than 70+ volunteers each week, engaged in running the library’s vital range of services and its increasingly popular range of activities. The current and future development of the Corbett Community Centre is improving a vital community asset situated at the heart of the Corbett Estate and has become an essential, vibrant hub for the provision of services to the community.
